The Xavier Gators left behind their friends, families and the comforts of their lives to travel to Nicaragua to volunteer their time in the community of El Trapiche.
The 17 students who traveled with us were excited to get their hands dirty to help this beautiful community with a garden, a playground for the students and a storage room.
We were greeted by our new friends with warmth and smiles. They had a few songs they shared with us which were just adorable.
After our warm welcome the girls got busy for the next few days, working side by side with the community members.
They sanded and primed the bars for the windows, and dug holes…. Lots of holes.
And then after the holes were dug, they learned how to mix cement the old fashioned way……
Mixing of the cement included: sifting the sand, mixing in rock, adding water and mix-mix-mix.
Great work gators……….
